The excellence

The food and wine of the Terre dei Savoia, which is intrinsically rustic fare, treats us to all the delights of a truly regal repast. Once more, thanks goes to Charles Albert, whose estates in Racconigi, Pollenzo, Santa Vittoria d’Alba, Roddi and Verduno were home to the birth of modern Piedmontese agriculture in the 1830s and 1840s.

All made by regional producers, the Bottega Reale stocks honey, jams, fruits, vegetables in “burnia” (jars); sweet and savoury preserves; leeks, peppers, ciapinabò (Jerusalem artichoke), medicinal herbs, as well as bagna cauda (hot dip) and cugnà (grape mustard). As well, last but not least, as natural flours, sweets, biscuits, and chocolates.

The products emit a scent reminiscent of woods, wet plains and alpine valleys. They evoke the ora et labora of thirteenth-century abbey monks and the toil of the peasants of the last post-war period; women of the high aristocracy and medieval masche. They were enjoyed by queens and Royal Madames alike; as well as emperors like Napoleon, kings such as Victor Emanuel II, cardinals and Presidents of the Republic.

For the final toast, the excellent wines of Langa and Roero perfectly round off this veritable feast of design, flavour and taste. They too were also created at the time of Charles Albert, and now represent this unique land all over the world.
