In the past, the advantageous position of Chiusa di Pesio, at the mouth of the Verde Valle (Green Valley), helped it to become an important hub for traffic and trade; it also favoured unique experiences as industry began to develop in the Cuneo area. Today, the renowned Certosa (Carthusian monastery) and the Regia Fabbrica di Vetri e Cristalli (Royal Factory of Glass and Crystal), not to mention its pleasant location, make it a centre of attraction for tourism in a vast and heterogeneous territory, the most fascinating part of which is the Upper Pesio Valley and Tanaro Nature Park.

The entire territory of the Upper Pesio Valley and Tanaro Nature Park is ideal for outdoor activities, for all levels of ability; the excursions, which begin in Chiusa, are extremely interesting, and cover places filled with Carthusian history and the Partisan Cemetery of Pian delle Gorre. Potholing enthusiasts should bear in mind that the Pesio Valley is one of the most important karstic systems in Italy, rich in caves and with phenomena such as the famous Pis del Pesio.
